Ariane Lauren
Hello! My name is Ariane Lauren and I live in Arizona, U.S.A. I my free time I like trying new foods (particularly fruit) and studying astronomy and oceanography.
Question 1: What do the words “writer’s block” mean to you?
I equate it to watching water boil. It never happens when you're looking, but when you're not paying attention. Worrying about it accomplishes nothing and makes me more stressed. When I go off and do something else so my mind can relax, that's usually when the block disappears.
Question 2: What is your writing process like? Are you more of a plotter or a pantser?
For short stories I'm a plotter. With poetry I'm definitely a pantser.
Question 3: If you could spend a day with another popular author, whom would you choose?
Alive- John Green (I love Vlog Bros.) / Dead- Edgar Allen Poe
Question 4: What is your kryptonite as a writer?
Self-doubt/Imposter Syndrome
Question 5: Do you play music while you write — and, if so, what’s your favorite?
Yes. Right now, what's being played on repeat is "Suzume" by Radwimps, "Ojitos Lindos" by Bad Bunny, "Shooting Star" by XG, and anything from NewJeans.
Question 6: What is the most valuable piece of advice you’ve been given about writing?
Write whatever you want. There'll always be someone out there who appreciates your work.
Question 7: What do you think is the best way to improve writing skills?
The basics like reading a lot and writing a lot. But also watch movies and television shows and listen to music. Movies and television can teach you how to build a plot and how the dialogue between others should flow. And music, to me, is like poetry set to music; even the songs you think are just pointless ear candy. Read the lyrics. Many can stand alone as incredible written pieces when you remove the music.
Question 8: Who has been the biggest supporter of your writing?
My husband.
Question 9: If you could invite any three people for dinner, whom would you invite?
My paternal grandfather (I never met him), Vincent van Gogh (to tell him how much I appreciate his art), and Batman (to ask how things are going and if he's taking care of himself).
Question 10: As a writer, what animal do you most relate to?
A bat. When comes to writing I'm a night person.
